The balls are rust red because the clay powder here is a little darker, and about one and a half centimetres across. They come in a pink cotton bag with a card tag and instructions. The mix is deliberately lean: ten species that give plenty of nectar and flower for a long time — common vetch, crimson, red and white clover, safflower, phacelia and sunflower.
Sow from March to May on a sunny spot, keep moist, and the first blooms arrive after four to six weeks. A bag makes a fitting gift for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day or no occasion at all — for people who like watching who lands in their garden.
